FAQ

Detention is also known as a per diem fee. Detention occurs when an importer picks up a container for unpacking but does not return it to the assigned depot within the agreed free-time period.

VGM refers to the gross weight of the container including its content. There are two ways to obtain VGM.

  1. The first method entails weighing the packed and sealed container and its contents. The container is weighed along with the truck on which it is loaded. The weight of the truck and its fuel is then eliminated from the total value.
  2. The second method requires weighing all the cargo items and contents of the container. That includes the packing material, securing equipment, pallets or dunnage individually. This is then added to the container’s tare weight.

We work with all the prominent names such as MSC, Maersk, CMA-CGM, Evergreen, COSCO, Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, ONE, etc.

You have five options to choose from.

  1. Standard containers, usually made of aluminium or steel also known as general-purpose containers.  Standard containers are provided in the following sizes: 20’DC, 40’DC, 40’HC, 45’HC
  2. The flat rack containers have collapsible sides that fold. That makes them ideal for transporting cars and boats. Flat rack containers are primarily meant for over width and heavyweight cargo due to its open construction.
  3. Open top containers have no roof and are ideal for amorphous goods such as machinery and logs.
  4. Refrigerated containers, also called reefers are used to transport cargo that requires protection from heat or cold, temperature control or ventilation. A wide variety of commodities can be shipped in refrigerated containers, including fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, poultry and seafood, dairy products and fresh juices, live plants, and flowers.
  5. Tank containers are cylindrical containers designed to retain liquids, gases and powders. They carry both hazardous and non-hazardous goods. Hazardous goods include oils, chemicals, and fuels. Non-hazardous goods include wines, spirits, and juices.

There are also plenty of non-standard containers available for a specific purpose or cargo. We can find the best option to fit your requirements.

Drop off service refers to the return of an empty container to the container owner’s terminal.

A commercial invoice is a standardized, commercial document drafted to reflect a transaction between a seller and a buyer. This document serves two purposes:

  1. It certifies the actual shipment of the goods by the seller (contractor) to the buyer (customer). The invoice lists the range and value of the goods.
  2. It serves as the basis for the collection of customs duties and for tax accounting.

A packing list serves as a product specification that contains detailed information for each item. The document is especially relevant as a supplement to the commercial invoice, if the cargo comprises numerous units of goods, with different weights and contents.

The cost of insurance depends on the value of the cargo. In calculating the cost, the type of container or service is immaterial.

You will need to provide details about route, package details (dimensions and weight).

CF&S Estonia AS ensures proper safety for your goods, from the time of receipt to the time of delivery. We achieve that by employing cargo protection standards. Hence, we recommend packing overweight goods in strong, well-built boxes.

Cargo which does not fit into standard transportation units (standard containers, wagons and trucks).

CF&S Estonia AS follows a standard procedure in this regard. First, we need to receive cargo details (dimensions and weight). Then, we calculate the most cost-effective transportation mode and route and offer the rate. For all further queries, you may contact us at our office or email us at project@cfs.net.

At CF&S Estonia AS we value your time as much as you do. We consider your route and cargo’s details to offer you the fastest and most cost-effective solution.

LTL or „less-than-truckload“ is the transport of larger or smaller parcels that do not fill the entire load. Partial load transport is used when the quantity of goods is relatively small. If your quantities of goods are smaller and do not require special handling or ultra-fast delivery, then partial load transport is the best choice. Partial load transport is a scheduled and reasonably priced transport solution.

FTL or „full truckload“ transport means that there is a whole load of products. Full load transport is also the case if you prefer to transport only your products or if the products require special care. Full truck loads are best suited for large shipments. Full load transport requires you to fill the entire means of transport with your goods. The plus of full load transport is a shorter delivery time.

Groupage means shipments from different customers weighing up to 2500 kg, which are transported on one route and in the same cargo hold. With the groupage service, the cargo moves from the point of departure to the destination through different cargo terminals on the basis of several waybills. To use the groupage service, the maximum length of a unit of goods can be up to 2.4 m, height up to 2.2 m, width up to 2.4 m, weight up to 1500 kg, and the maximum weight of the entire shipment is 2500 kg. The goods must be packaged appropriately for transhipment.

They are defined by using the Incoterms (International Commercial Terms) rules. Incoterms (delivery clauses) are an international standard that defines the mutual obligations of the buyer and the seller during the transportation of goods. They define who is responsible for the transportation of the goods and what costs are borne by the buyer or seller.

We offer customs, transit declaration, and cargo securing services. By using these services, we are able ensure the safe movement of your goods and minimize legal risks.

In the case of international carriage of goods by road, relations between the parties are governed by the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR). According to this, each item must be accompanied by a CMR waybill, which is an international contract for the carriage of goods by road. A CMR is a document that is required regardless of the destination of international freight transport. This document is mandatory when delivering goods to any European country or anywhere else in the world. The sender of the goods is responsible for filling in the CMR.

The standard trailer can accommodate a maximum of 34 Euro pallets or 26 FIN pallets.
