Demurrage is an additional fee charged when a full container remains at the port or terminal beyond the free storage time allowed by the shipping line. These costs are paid by the importer
Detention is a fee charged when a container is used outside the terminal or depot longer than the agreed free time. Detention is also known as “daily usage fee”.
